In the early 1990s, Paul, an engineer by training, was unexpectedly thrust into a leadership role within a fast-growing business unit of a major IT firm in the Netherlands. With little prior leadership experience, he found himself navigating the overwhelming challenge of co-managing a team that expanded from 70 employees to over 1,200 within a few years due to mergers. The explosive growth brought chaos, burnout, unhappy customers, and frustrated employees. Sickness rates soared above 10%, and Paul realized there had to be a better way to manage rapid growth while fostering a healthier, more resilient workplace.
He became determined to redefine what scaling a business could look like—not as a relentless climb up a daunting mountain but as an exhilarating journey where each step builds momentum for the next. He learned and experienced how success ignites pride and pride ignites success. To him, successful scaling combines overcoming challenges with creating enduring solutions. Enabling teams to deliver high-quality results that inspire both employees and customers.
