About
I work with founders of growth-stage companies who are navigating increased complexity and want a clear, disciplined approach to strategy, execution, and organizational design.
My role is not to provide all the answers, but to serve as a guide and thinking partner—helping leaders clarify tradeoffs, decide what matters most, and execute with focus as their organizations grow. I use the tools and disciplines of the Scaling Up framework to support clear decision-making and focused execution.
I am particularly effective with leaders who value clear thinking and disciplined execution, and who want a coaching relationship grounded in substance rather than surface-level inspiration.
Professional Highlights
I am a tenured Associate Professor of Management at California State University, Long Beach, where my work centers on strategy, execution, organizational design, and decision-making under constraint. My academic career has focused on how leaders prioritize, make tradeoffs, and execute in complex, real-world environments. In addition to my academic work, I bring direct operational accountability from serving as General Manager of a skilled nursing facility. In that role, I was responsible for staff, operations, compliance, and P&L performance in a highly regulated environment. The work required daily judgment calls involving staffing, quality of care, payer mix, and operational priorities—grounding my perspective in frontline execution rather than theory alone.
Personal Highlights
I care deeply about clarity, standards, and honest conversation.
I am comfortable working in ambiguity, slowing conversations down when needed, and saying “this depends” rather than offering quick or simplistic answers.
In practice, this often involves helping founders see and evaluate tradeoffs clearly, decide what to do and what not to do as complexity increases, and bring focus and execution discipline to their strategy.
Founders who value careful thinking, well-aimed and constructive questions, conversations that clarify real options, and help turning decisions into action tend to find the work a good fit.
