About
Ralph Rathburn is the President of AmAsia Business Coaching (formerly Praxi K.K.). In particular, he helps international businesses and businesses with multicultural work-forces reach leading edge performance and Scale Up.

Ralph's purpose is to help senior leaders be the best version of themselves and to help them generate abundance - for their businesses, for themselves and for their people – staff, customers and shareholders.

He's managed international businesses in Japan for more than 30 years - living in Japan for 27 of those years. Japan is known to be one of the hardest markets in the world for foreigners and foreign companies to succeed. Japanese customers are world renown for being both demanding and difficult. Ralph has generated success in that market for his own companies and for the companies he has been an executive with.

Ralph has extensive experience in direct marketing, importing, and distributing, as well as in live-entertainment and sports, product licensing, product localization, and brand management. He's manufactured products under license for sale in Japan and understands the Japanese PSE electrical rules. He's created 30-minute and short-form commercials to be run on broadcast TV in Japan and the UK. He's run creative problem solving sessions for companies in Tokyo and Beijing and provided intercultural communication and management training and coaching to chief executives and other top execs who need to be effective with people who are different from themselves.

He speaks English and Japanese.

Professional Highlights
Ralph Rathburn has simultaneously managed his own companies while also taking on senior executive roles with other companies. As division manager of a Japanese direct marketing company, he took the DRTV, internet, and catalog operations from $40M to $120M; moving from $1M a month in losses to more than $2M a month in profit. He launched a direct marketing operation in Japan for a Spanish manufacturer and grew that operation from zero to $16M in revenue over 18 months. He did an emergency turn-around of the UK subsidiary of a German company.

Ralph's company AmAsia Inc. has been facilitating international business partnerships for more than 3 decades as the international department for Chukyo TV to bring Disney On Ice to Japan. AmAsia worked on the Tokyo and Beijing Olympics, the Football/Soccer World Cup and the Rugby World Cup as well as providing live entertainers for 5-Star hotels throughout Japan. Ralph also brought "Thomas the Tank Engine - Live" to Japan. His other company, Praxi K.K., imported and distributed European and American consumer goods into Japan until 2017.

Ralph is a certified Scaling Up Coach and the creator of "Difference Matters" - a program to help executives be more effective working with people who are different from themselves. He has a Master of Arts in Communication and Persuasion and a Bachelor of Science in Communication in Radio/TV Management.

Personal Highlights
Ralph spent a decade in public relations for Miner & Fraser Public Affairs, the National Association of Counties, and Greenhorne & O'Mara before moving to Japan in 1991. He started a PhD program in 1995 at the University of Iowa but had to move back to Japan for his business leaving his PhD unfinished. He and his Japanese husband now live in Pasadena CA though Ralph splits his time between the US and Japan working with clients and his business AmAsia.
